On Tuesday 1 May, MTP staff were joined by primary and secondary teachers involved in the Tech School initiative for an intensive day developing our new learning community. The morning was spent developing a shared vision, defining key features, finding common threads and identifying our underlying beliefs and values. We were joined by colleagues from Art who are likewise forming new communities to develop innovative and bold learning spaces for learning. In the afternoon, Marc Blanks CEO of two Tech Schools, led us through building protocols to use when communicating, and peer coaching skills such as asking open questions, probing and rephrasing.
The day was an exciting opportunity for us to build trust and establish positive relationships as we seek collectively to develop new spaces for learning that blur boundaries between pre-service and in-service learning and between the academy and practice. Drawing on the Teaching Academy we will be piloting a triad model of learning involving three pre-service teachers, three teacher mentors and one Tech School Ambassador, who will work collaboratively to develop and deliver localised learning.
With thanks to Tricia, Kathy, Mel, Alison, Shona and Angela for helping to organise the day and making it such a positive experience.
